THE JOURNEY TO SWITCH FITNESS
My path to teaching Yin yoga began unexpectedly during a vacation in Kauai, where I discovered the profound benefits of this gentle practice. While I'd always enjoyed stretching, experiencing my first Yin class opened my eyes to a whole new approach to movement and mindfulness. During COVID, I completed my online certification, turning my appreciation for the practice into an opportunity to guide others.
EXPERTISE & IMPACT
Before teaching at Switch, I initiated a stretching program at PG&E that started with just 10 coworkers on Teams calls during COVID. What began as a 15-minute daily stretch session grew into a company-wide wellness initiative, now run by company ergonomists twice daily, sometimes reaching over 100 participants. This experience showed me how accessible mindful movement can be, even in a corporate setting.
TEACHING STYLE & APPROACH
My Yin classes focus on finding both physical and mental peace on the mat. I always take time before class to connect with new students, understanding their needs and preparing them for the experience. My corporate background helps me relate to desk-bound professionals, offering practical solutions for common issues like low back and shoulder tension. I emphasize that while we always have our mats and props, our breath is our most reliable tool for maintaining patience in challenging poses.
LIFE BEYOND THE STUDIO
When not teaching, you'll find me enjoying outdoor adventures with my wife, D'Lee. We're Thousand Trails members who love camping at Snowflower, exploring new e-bike trails (especially along beaches), and paddleboarding at peaceful spots like Sunflower campground and Lake of the Springs. These active pursuits complement my Yin practice, often highlighting areas that need attention and care.
