YOGA JOURNEY
When I began my yoga journey, we followed the same sequence in each class. This repetition helped me feel my progress with deeper bends and improved balance, which kept me coming back. I explored teacher training programs and found that an online program was the best fit for me, despite challenges like learning anatomy.
I gravitate toward arm balances and enjoy seeing my personal progress, whether it’s mastering 8-angle, flying splits, or flying pigeon. Though I’m still working on a forearm stand, the journey has taken me from feeling lost and unbalanced to confidently instructing others. Yoga has also improved my other fitness pursuits, teaching me to breathe, deepen stretches, and align my body.
EXPERTISE & CERTIFICATIONS
My yoga journey has led to a focus on Vinyasa classes, where I integrate the principles of balance, alignment, and mindful breathing. I believe yoga is a continual learning process and strive to enhance my knowledge and instruction each time I teach.
TEACHING APPROACH & CLASSES
As a behaviorist, one of my goals is to explain a skill clearly enough for others to learn. This influences my teaching approach, where I strive to find the best words to describe each pose and refine my explanations every class. I focus on giving multiple options for poses and demonstrating how props can make them more accessible for everyone. I also encourage students to take progress photos to track their development, as this has been a motivating practice for me.
PERSONAL TOUCHES
I believe that we don’t fully transition from student to teacher – we are always learning. As a teacher, it’s important to give yourself grace and practice. I try to incorporate this philosophy into my classes, fostering an environment where growth is continuous for both me and my students.
